In times of confinement, families systematically take two meals together. What does this imply? We must first remember, this second meal can be a source of material difficulty for certain families. For the others, this moment depends very much on the quality of the family relationships which preceded the period of confinement. If it was good before, confinement is certainly painful but it is going well.
The meal then brings a friendly aspect, including lunch. This is an opportunity to take your eyes off the computer and stop for an hour if you are teleworking. Confinement also offers more time to prepare it, this family meal. The little ones or young college students can cook with mom and dad, especially on weekends. With older children, it is an opportunity to delegate and organize: one person will cook, the other will do the dishes. Everyone can make the meal they like. Then there are also easy options for ordering confinement meal here.
Still, the atmosphere is very different from that of the school canteen or a meal with colleagues
Obviously, children prefer to have their friends by their side. But, taken with the family, the midday meal can allow reintroducing an exchange with the children. For example, you can watch TV then turn it off and start a discussion. Usually, one of the parents is often absent due to work, for example, or meals are taken with a slingshot. Perhaps confinement can just restore these family times.
The meal can thus become again a time when we take the time to eat, and when we thus avoid eating too much. A meal rhythm, as we know, promotes good health. Obesity surveys show that the more time you take to eat, the less obese you are.
How to organize meals, between teleworking, school homework and household chores?
What is essential in a standard family, with two or three children, is to define a timetable, week after week, with defined meal times. We can also specify who will prepare the meal, at what time, adapting to everyone’s schedule.
This also makes it possible to plan pleasant common times, while in a period of confinement, there is a thousand and one occasions to rub shoulders. This is fundamental: on the three meals of the day – breakfast, lunch and dinner, let’s try to at least take two all together.
What is the role of the meal today in families?
It allows you to rebuild the link, to transmit too. You can test new recipes or apply Grandma’s recipes. Maybe it is not every day, but at least twice a week. The culinary tradition is important to register in a long time. At the rate of two recipes per week over two months, that makes 16 recipes. Not bad is not it?
